Overnewton Anglican Community College

Student

Overnewton Anglican Community College opened in 1987 in direct response to community need for accessible quality education in the northwest of Melbourne. The second campus, at Taylor's Lakes opened in 1996.

In its quest to develop each student as an individual and to foster small communities within community, the College is organised into Junior School (P - 4), Middle School (5 - 8), Canowindra (Yr 9), and Senior School (10 - 12).  Each Campus has a Junior School and a Middle School with Canowindra located on the Taylors Lakes Campus and the Senior School at the Keilor Campus.

Each School has its own Head of School and its own Parent Support Team and is functionally self-contained. The structure gives a small school community intimacy to the entire College and is supported by our large-school facilities, large VCE subject choice and support services. The College is a safe, happy, ordered environment in which disciplined behaviour is a natural outcome of motivated students, engaging and demanding programs and excellent pastoral care systems.

Proudly Anglican, the College has a Chaplain at each Campus and every child attends Chapel once a week. Christian festivals are celebrated, Christian values are promoted and active faith is encouraged. Divinity is taught from Prep to Year 11.

To allow access to our education, the College maintains low fees. Fees provide about one third of the cost of educating the child, State and Commonwealth governments provide the balance.

Recognising that education is a partnership, the College seeks high parental involvement and each family contributes 18 hours of service to the College per term. There are over fifty parent working groups helping in areas such as Junior School reading and classroom assistance, gardening, yard duty, student banking, photocopying, catering, College shops and canteens and the annual fair. There are regular working bees at each campus.  The Parental involvement is key to the success of a student's experience in the College.  Students attend the College knowing they have the complete support and commitment of their parents behind them.
