The Overnewton Outdoor Education Program at Year 9 brings intrinsic life skill through a sequential process. Students are provided with the opportunities to develop their character and be provided with the tools to prosper throughout their school life and beyond. Students are provided the learning environments where their character is challenged to develop through real life and authentic tasks. The Camp program at Year 9 aims to develop Overnewton students through challenging and fostering their independence, initiative, emotional and physical resilience, ability to work in a team as well as lead teams, whilst appreciating and respecting their environment.
During Year 9 students have the opportunity to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. As a part of this opportunity, students attend two outdoor camps to an alpine environment where they complete journey based bushwalks and develop canoeing skills.
Students who do not elect to do the Duke of Edinburgh Award complete a coastal based camp with the same focus, to develop the students’ character.
