Healthy lunches and snacks are important for children and help with concentration and learning. Healthy eating changes are not always easy to make and we encourage children to be involved in their own lunch preparation, and their choices about foods to include.
There are limited times for children to eat during the day, especially at school. Children may prefer to play with friends instead of eating, so younger students are encouraged to sit and eat before heading out to play.
At each campus, a number of families rely on the canteen to provide lunches every day, while others allow lunch orders as an occasional treat. Lunch orders may be filled in by parents and sent in from home, or students may be given money to make their own choices about what food and drink they will buy, and when. As they become older more of the responsibility for selecting food passes over to the students.
There is one canteen for Preparatory –Year 9 students at the Taylors Lakes Campus, and one canteen for Preparatory – Year 8 students and a Cafeteria for Year 10-12 students at Keilor Campus. These outlets are provided to ensure that food is affordable, provides variety and a nutritional balance and recognises the food customs of all students and staff.
