Principal's Message
Welcome to the Overnewton Anglican Community College Website.
An Overnewton education provides an experience that is like no other. The strong links with the Anglican Church and an emphasis on family involvement are significant in the life of an Overnewton student. With a tradition of strong VCE results, the school is committed to the academic and co-curricular education of its students as well as the personal and spiritual dimensions of their lives.
The concept of 'good old fashioned family values' is not an outdated one; these are the values that are inherent in the College's approach to all that it does. Our families are integral to the Overnewton experience.
Parents contribute to the life of the College through their involvement in the eighteen-hour Family Contribution Scheme. Consequently, every student enters Overnewton confident in the knowledge that their parents are their greatest supporters. Strong community values as well as personal skills in resilience are effectively built on the sound base of parents and staff working together to support our students.
Founded in 1987, the College has grown rapidly in its short history to its current enrolment of over 2000 students across its two campuses. Although, large in number, our campuses are divided into smaller schools: a Junior and Middle School on each campus, a Year Nine Centre on our Taylors Lakes Campus and a Senior School on our Keilor Campus. The smaller school structure ensures that each student is well known by staff members and peers in a particular school. The schools were formed to meet the needs of students in similar developmental stages. The learning environment in each of the schools is therefore suited to specific learning needs with the support of teams of specialist staff.
Each of schools has its own parent support team as well. These teams provide an extra level of support for staff and students. Likewise, a social and supportive vehicle for parents is provided that ensures parents have a sense of belonging to 'communities within the community'.
Having completed a major review of the master building program, the College has embarked on an exciting time of building across both campuses. The opening of the new Senior School on the Keilor Campus in January 2004 has provided a truly post-school, adult focus to the education of our Year Ten to Twelve students. It has added also to the spectacular backdrop of the Maribyrnong Valley. Construction of the new Middle School building at the Taylors Lakes Campus is now also complete. Additions to the Year Nine Centre and a new Administration Building at Taylors Lakes Campus will further enhance the environment of that campus.
Further building in the next few years will see the completion of a new sports centre, multi-media theatre, at Taylors Lakes Campus and new Middle School classrooms at Keilor campus and renovations to Junior Schools at both locations. It is indeed an exciting time.
I trust that you will enjoy your journey through our website. Should you have any queries about the College, or any of the information you read today, please do not hesitate to contact me at
