Student Leadership

At Overnewton, we believe every child has the potential to lead, not just in the future, but from their early years of school life. In the Junior School, leadership is nurtured in age-appropriate ways that supports students to build confidence, responsibility, self-efficacy, and a sense of purpose. Whether they’re contributing to their classroom operations and learning environment, helping others in the playground, or taking initiative during special events, students are encouraged to take action, inspire, and make a positive difference.

Leadership Opportunities

Formal leadership opportunities begin in Year 4, when students can apply for a position on the Junior School Student Representative Council (SRC), assisting them to explore leadership in an active and meaningful way.

Leadership opportunities include roles such as:

  • House Captain

  • Chapel Captain

  • Environment Captain

  • School Captain

Primary school aged students donating toys to Anglicare at St Paul’s Cathedral during Overnewton’s annual Carols Service, demonstrating the school’s commitment to service learning and community giving.

Service Learning

Grounded in our College values, Overnewton’s leadership program focuses on serving others, building community, and acting with compassion and courage. Through the experience of leading events, supporting social service initiatives, mentoring younger students and working as part of a team, students begin to develop key skills in communication, decision-making and problem-solving, as they discover the true meaning of authentic and principled leadership.
