Absences
To ensure accurate attendance records and for student safety, parents and guardians are required to enter the absence details for their child in the Compass Parent App.
Please do not email teachers directly regarding absences.
If the College has not received notification and your child has been marked absent, you will receive an SMS text message to notify that your child has been marked absent.
Should you have prior knowledge that your child will be absent from school such as holidays, music examinations or pre-arranged medical appointments, please provide this information in advance.
No student is permitted to leave the College grounds without being signed out and parental permission received.
In the event where your child is required to walk or catch transport to attend an appointment on their own, they cannot be dismissed unless we have been provided with consent/Compass entry.
In the event where your child is to be collected by an adult other than their parent or guardian, we must be provided with a written note detailing the name and relationship of the person collecting your child, otherwise they cannot be dismissed.
Teacher Communication
Emailing or sending a message via Compass are acceptable forms of communication for parents wishing to provide teachers with a message or ask a question. Teachers will respond to messages within 48 hours on school days.
We value communication about your child. If there is a need to speak to your child’s teacher regarding any matter, please make an appointment via email.
Staff often have meetings before and after school. Attempting to speak to a teacher before school without notice can often be problematic as the teacher’s focus is on preparing the students for learning; therefore, making a specific appointment is a more effective form of communication.
Mobile Phones
Students must keep their phones off and stored in their lockers from 8.50am to 3.25pm.
Phones are not to be used for personal messaging during school hours, including during ACS Sport. Phones sighted during this time will be confiscated and can be collected at the end of the day.
Wearable devices are also permitted however they must be turned off between 8.50am and 3.25pm.
For urgent messages or concerns, parents should contact the Year 9 Office, First Aid, teachers or leaders. Any important messages for your child should be sent to the Year 9 Office to ensure they are received before dismissal at 3.25pm.
Staying Connected to Learning
Communication with our families is an essential element to the success of our partnership.
Your child's Home Group teacher will send you regular bulletins via email regarding what's happening at Year 9, including key activities and upcoming learning themes.
Parent, Teacher, Student Interviews
We have a number of planned communication events throughout the year. These include the more formal Parent Teacher Student interviews that take place in Terms 2 and 3. This time allows the opportunity for teachers and parents to discuss each student’s progress.
Semester Reports
Semester Reports are provided in Terms 2 and 4.
Academic Progress Notifications
Academic Progress Notifications (APNs) are issued via Compass to inform parents if a student has not completed homework, not submitted or unsuccessfully completed an assessment task, or missed a test. These notifications are intended to support timely communication between students and their teachers.
