The Overnewton Advantage

At Overnewton, we are committed to delivering an education that goes beyond the ordinary - one that nurtures confident, knowledgeable, and ethical young people, equipping them to succeed and make a meaningful impact. Our approach to teaching and learning is grounded in research-based methodologies, ensuring that every student is challenged, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Our pedagogical foundation is built on Visible Learning, an evidence-based framework developed by Professor John Hattie. This approach ensures that learning is intentional, structured, and personalised. Our expert teaching teams design lessons that clearly define learning goals, break down complex concepts into manageable steps, and provide targeted feedback to help students progress. Through deliberate practice and meaningful challenges, students develop the skills, knowledge, and mindset to achieve academic success.

A key component of our approach is our progressive assessment model, which ensures that students not only understand where they are in their learning journey but also what steps they need to take to improve. This commitment to clarity and growth helps our students move beyond surface-level learning to deep understanding.

Guiding this vision is our Director of Teaching and Learning, Mr John Lee, who works closely with our Learning Leaders and teaching teams to ensure every student receives a high-quality, carefully sequenced education from Prep to Year 12. Whether it’s achieving excellence in VCE, excelling in national competitions, or embracing real-world learning experiences such as VCE Vocational Major projects and Year 9 Focus Weeks, our students are supported to succeed in ways that matter most to them.

The Overnewton Advantage is more than just great teaching, it’s an education that inspires curiosity, fosters a love of learning, and equips students with the skills to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025

As Principal of Overnewton Anglican Community College, I am delighted to share in the celebration of the graduating Class of 2025. This year’s graduates hold particular significance for me, as they are the first Senior School cohort I have had the privilege of accompanying from the beginning of Year 10 through to the completion of their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) studies. To walk alongside them during these important final years of their schooling has been both humbling and inspiring.

The Class of 2025 reflects the richness and diversity of an Overnewton education. Many have achieved outstanding academic results, including perfect study scores and exceptional ATARs. Others have flourished in the VCE VM, demonstrating excellence in applied learning and achieving distinction in their chosen pathways.

Among the many achievements of this year, I would like to acknowledge Minhao (Nathan) Yuan, our 2025 College Captain, whose outstanding ATAR of 99.90 stands as a testament to his extraordinary dedication and intellect. Nathan’s success, alongside that of his peers, is a powerful reminder of what is possible when talent is combined with commitment and hard work.

At the same time, I would like to honour the many students whose results may not be highlighted in brochures or statistics, but who worked diligently, applied themselves wholeheartedly, and achieved outcomes beyond what they once thought possible.

These successes are equally worth celebrating because they reflect the true value of learning, growth, perseverance, and the discovery of personal potential. At Overnewton, we believe that striving for your best is the ultimate goal for all of our learners, and this year’s cohort has embodied that spirit.

Behind these successes stands a community. To the families of our graduates; your encouragement, sacrifice, and steadfast belief in your children have been the foundation for their achievements. To our staff; your tireless commitment to guiding students with care and wisdom has been deeply valued. I also wish to acknowledge the leadership of Mr Neil La Rocca, Acting Head of Senior School, whose steady guidance over the past 18 months has been instrumental in shaping the experiences of this cohort.

As our graduates step into the next chapter of their lives, whether moving on to university, vocational study, employment, or other pursuits, I am confident that they will do so with the courage, compassion, and integrity that define Overnewton. They leave here not only with knowledge, but with the character and values to make a meaningful difference in the world.

To the Class of 2025, congratulations. We are so proud of all that you have accomplished, and we look forward to seeing the next steps of your journey unfold.

May the Lord, who is our light, guide your path, brighten your steps, and illuminate the way as you begin this new chapter.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
