Overnewton success at the ACS Public Speaking Championships
By Nikki Little, Head of Co Curriculum

Congratulations to Etienne (Year 11), Bianca (Year 10) and Harriet (Year 7) for proudly representing Overnewton at the ACS Public Speaking Championships, held last night at Aitken College.
Competing against seven other schools, our students delivered insightful, thought-provoking prepared speeches on topics of personal interest, showcasing confidence, critical thinking and powerful communication in front of a live audience.
This year’s event also introduced a revised impromptu segment, where senior students, including Etienne, rose to the challenge with impressive clarity, composure and conviction.
A special congratulations to Harriet, who was named Best Speaker in the Junior Competition for her exceptional speech titled “The Harmful Impact of Private Space Travel.” Speaking for three minutes without notes, she captivated the audience with her expressive delivery, creativity and commanding stage presence.
Thank you to Simona Ceranic and Elena Brasacchio for their dedicated leadership of the College’s Be Heard Co Curricular pillar, and for passionately mentoring these talented young orators.
We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
