Empowering Young Leaders at Overnewton’s 2026 Student Leadership Summit

Feb 24, 2026 4:09 PM

On Friday, Overnewton proudly hosted our third annual Student Leadership Summit, welcoming 75 student leaders from schools across Melbourne’s north-west for our largest Summit to date.

The day was filled with energy, collaboration and meaningful conversation, as students explored self-leadership, service leadership and student-led initiatives through workshops facilitated by Youth Leadership Academy Australia.

A highlight of the Summit was the keynote address from Federal Member for Gorton, Alice Jordan-Baird, who reminded students of the power of their voice.

This is where our amazing young leaders are. These young voices are literally shaping national policy.

I’ve really enjoyed meeting other leaders and making new connections.

At Overnewton, we believe leadership is developed through experience, reflection and service. The Student Leadership Summit provides a meaningful platform for young people to refine their skills, explore their capacity to influence positive change and recognise the responsibility that comes with leadership. The quality of conversation and engagement throughout the day was exceptional.

It’s good to hear how other schools do things so we can work together.

Just because you’re in a different school, you can still collaborate.

Our Year 12 Student Executive played a key role in hosting and supporting the event, reinforcing Overnewton’s commitment to student voice and authentic leadership experiences.

We extend our sincere thanks to Eureka Catering for generously providing food and service on the day, and to the Australian Council for Student Voice and Edstart for their valued support in making the Summit such a success.

We are proud to provide opportunities that empower young people to lead with confidence, integrity and a strong sense of community.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
