Festival of Music opens with A Celebration of Strings

Oct 15, 2026 9:53 AM

Throughout Term 3 our Festival of Music has showcased the incredible breadth of talent, creativity and musicianship across our students, from strings and concert bands to rock, choral music and musical theatre.

It all began with A Celebration of Strings with students from Prep to Year 12 taking to the stage. The evening provided a wonderful snapshot of the remarkable musical development that comes with learning an instrument.

Year 12 student Tyra thrilled the audience with Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, while 2025 Dux Nathan Yuan made a surprise appearance as “Stringman”! The concert reached a powerful climax with a massed performance of Powershift, featuring more than 100 students.

Congratulations to all of the students involved, and to their ensemble directors for supporting and encouraging their musical development.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
