Founders' Day

Jul 9, 2025 2:00 PM

On Thursday 26 June, our Middle School, Year 9 and Senior School students and staff, along with our College Leadership Team, gathered for two beautiful Founders’ Day services at our home church, St Paul's Cathedral. It was a time to reflect, give thanks, and honour the vision on which Overnewton was built.

Welcomed by the Very Reverend Dr Andreas Loewe, the services included readings and prayers from Reverend Dr Robert Derrenbacker, Reverend Luke Pedersen, the Venerable Michael Hopkins, and Reverend Dr Fergus King, alongside our Principal Emily FitzSimons, College Chaplain Reverend Peter Landry, students and staff.

A highlight of the day was hearing Stories of Foundation, shared by foundation staff member Mr Mike Lampard and foundation student (now staff member) Dr Nicole Webster. These were heartfelt reflections that reminded us of how far we’ve come and the spirit that continues to shape us.

Our gifted Performing Arts students brought the cathedral to life with music and song, filling the space with warmth, energy and emotion. From the Symphonic Band and String Orchestra to the 5/6 Choir, Senior School instrumentalists, College Choir and Senior School Choir, their performances elevated the service and reflected the dedication of both students and staff. A special thank you to St Paul’s Cathedral Organist, Mrs Roslyn Carolane, for her magnificent accompaniment. The music was not only a highlight of the day, but a powerful expression of the spirit and pride of our College community.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
