Overnewton Student Voice Recognised in National Award Nomination

May 5, 2025 5:52 AM

We are proud to share that Overnewton has been nominated for the Student Voice Impact Award by the Australian Council for Student Voice in recognition of our deep and ongoing commitment to student leadership and agency across the College. At Overnewton, student voice is not just heard, it is valued as a powerful force for driving positive change and creating more inclusive, connected communities.

Overnewton’s student leadership is vibrant, inclusive, and action-driven. From SRC groups at each school to a dedicated Student Executive, students lead a wide range of initiatives including the Huntington Award for Middle School leadership, the Fight MND Big Freeze, Anglicare and the Parish of St Luke's Sydenham, and multiple charity fundraisers. They also drive annual awareness campaigns for RUOK Day, IDAHOBIT, Harmony Week, Refugee Week, and more - all grounded in community and compassion.

Students are also making an impact through specialised groups such as the Sustainability Team, which helped the College earn its second ResourceSmart Schools star, and support our Indigenous connections through the RAP Committee and foster connection with our yapa (sister) school Shepherdson College for reciprocal cultural exchanges. Inclusion is championed by the Delta Group, the People of Colour Alliance, and the Kindness Collective, all of which create space for connection, support, and meaningful change.

Earlier this year, we proudly hosted our second annual Student Leadership Summit, welcoming student leaders from across the Brimbank region for a day of high-impact workshops, inspiring speakers, and meaningful collaboration.

Congratulations to our incredible students for leading with purpose and shaping a culture of respect, inclusion and influence.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
