Waa’s Helpers Lead the Way in Sustainability
Our Year 4 students proudly took to the stage this week to share the incredible sustainability projects happening across the Junior School through the Waa’s Helpers program.
From planting and caring for a thriving veggie garden full of broad beans, tomatoes and coriander, to racing through a Sustainability Scavenger Hunt, our young environmental leaders have shown how teamwork, care and curiosity can make a real difference.
These actions also support Overnewton’s progress toward achieving its next Sustainability Victoria ResourceSmart Schools milestone, the Biodiversity Module, which focuses on protecting and enhancing local ecosystems and habitats.
They also joined the 100 Trees Program, planting native trees to support biodiversity and show respect for Country, and created their own video to inspire others to protect our planet. A huge thank you to our Year 9 Kindness Collective students for their encouragement and support along the way.
Together, our Waa’s Helpers are proving that caring for the planet can be fun, inspiring and deeply rewarding.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
