Year 12 Students Learn Strategies to Recognise and Prevent Burnout

Facilitator Nick Orchard flanked by a small group of Year 12 students at the conclusion of "The Big Refresh" pastoral care incursion focusing on how to identify burnout, held at Yirramboi Campus, Keilor.

Our Year 12 students attended a session by Nick Orchard, founder of The Big Refresh, learning how to recognise the early signs of burnout and take proactive steps to manage it.

Students explored what it looks like when they are at their best, with a focus on managing energy rather than time. As they prepare for the upcoming assessment period and their next chapter - whether in further education or the workforce- opportunities for self reflection are essential.

I enjoyed The Big Refresh with Nick. He was so engaging and gave everyone the opportunity to share their thoughts, which I thought was really valuable. It was great to see everyone get involved and understand that, with the right strategies, we can all do well in our final year of school.

It was amazing to listen to what Nick had to say and his tips for success. His story really opened my eyes to the impact of burnout and stress.

At Overnewton, we are committed to developing not only capable learners, but resilient young adults who can look after their wellbeing, navigate pressure, and thrive in the years ahead.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
