Religion and Values Education (RaVE)
At Overnewton, our College Values of Community, Learning, Excellence and Respect are woven into every aspect of Junior School life. Through weekly Religion and Values Education (RaVE) lessons, students explore these values through age-appropriate experiences linked to our Christian ethos, which help to shape their character and guide their choices.
RaVE is central to our commitment to nurturing the spiritual, moral and ethical development of every child. As a Christian school, attendance in weekly RaVE lessons and Chapel services is compulsory for all students. These experiences provide opportunities for reflection, gratitude and connection, supporting students to consider who they are, how they treat others, and how they can make a positive impact on the world around them.
Chapel Services
Chapel services are led by our College Chaplain, Reverend Peter Landry, who plays a deeply valued role in our community. Rev. Peter offers pastoral care and spiritual guidance to students, families and staff alike. His gentle presence brings comfort in times of difficulty, joy during celebrations, and a grounding sense of hope through life’s ups and downs. Chapel is a treasured time for our students, offering a moment to pause, reflect and feel a sense of belonging within a supportive Christian environment.
Through stories, discussions, and hands-on activities, students learn the importance of compassion, integrity, and respect for people of all beliefs and backgrounds. These values are reinforced through involvement in social service initiatives that support those less fortunate, which assists our students to develop empathy and a strong sense of justice from an early age.
Where Faith, Values and Wellbeing Meet
The Junior School RaVE program also incorporates the Victorian Government’s Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) initiative. This evidence-based program is designed to foster emotional intelligence, respectful behaviours, and positive relationships. RRRR complements our values and Religious Studies curriculum by empowering students with the skills to build resilience, understand their rights and responsibilities, and navigate social and emotional challenges with confidence.
Together, RaVE, Chapel and RRRR form an important part of our wellbeing and values-based education, supporting students to grow into kind, thoughtful and socially responsible young people.
