Activate
Activate offers a dynamic and inclusive sports program that fosters teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. Through maximum participation, students are encouraged to develop their athletic abilities, improve fitness, and embrace the College Values of Community, Excellence, Learning and Respect. The program promotes pride and sportsmanship, creating a positive environment where students build confidence and a sense of belonging.
From Prep to Year 4, the focus is on fun and non-competitive participation, where students engage in physical activities that enhance self-esteem and teamwork. As students progress through Junior School, opportunities for competition increase, with students in Year 4 taking part in swimming and cross-country trials as well as a House Athletics Carnival. In Years 5 and 6, a competitive weekly inter school sporting program offers further growth, with a range of team sorts and individual pursuits on offer within the School Sport Victoria (SSV) pathway.
From Year 7, Activate expands with participation in the Association of Co-Educational Schools (ACS) competition, major House sport carnivals, and senior students can be nominated for prestigious ACS All Star awards. With a focus on participation, leadership, and personal excellence, the Activate program provides students with a well-rounded and empowering experience that reflects Overnewton’s commitment to fostering resilient, well-rounded individuals.
Activate Performance Programs
Overnewton offers Performance Programs across a range of sports, with two sports - Soccer and Cheer Sport - achieving national recognition.
Soccer
Overnewton is proud to be the first football partner school of Melbourne Victory Football Club. This unique affiliation offers students unrivalled access to professional coaching, elite training environments, and exclusive A-League opportunities - all within a program that supports both sporting excellence and personal growth. Delivered by Melbourne Victory’s academy coaches, the program develops technical skill, tactical awareness and a strong sense of teamwork and resilience. Students also enjoy match-day experiences, behind-the-scenes access and player interactions, enriching their love for the game while aligning with Overnewton’s holistic approach to education.
Cheer Sport
Overnewton’s Cheer Sport program is going from strength to strength, with our representative teams winning both the primary and secondary national scholastic titles for two consecutive years. Training is delivered by expert coaches from Southern Cross Cheer at their purpose-built facility in Tullamarine. With a focus on performance, inclusion and personal growth, the program supports students to develop their skills and confidence within a high energy and supportive team environment.
Watch the Royals, our reigning National Champion Cheer Sport team, light up the stage with incredible talent, athleticism and infectious energy in this dynamic performance.

Be Heard
is designed to foster confidence and communication skills, empowering students to express themselves with clarity and conviction. From their early years, students are encouraged to develop their oratory skills through public speaking, progressing to debates and competitive speaking events. With opportunities extending to prestigious platforms such as the Debating Association of Victoria and YMCA Victorian Youth Parliament, students refine their ability to construct and defend arguments, support opinions with evidence, and think on their feet.
Debating, a popular and dynamic activity at Overnewton, promotes teamwork while challenging students to respond to arguments with agility and insight. Students engage in various competitions such as the DAV Junior Public Speaking competition, ACS Public Speaking, and the VCAA Plain English Public Speaking contest. These experiences not only build essential life skills but also instil confidence in students as they learn to speak with purpose and impact. Through the Be Heard pillar, students gain valuable communication abilities that prepare them for future challenges and leadership opportunities.

Synergy fosters student leadership and voice through active participation in groups such as the Student Representative Council, Sustainability Team, Overnewton’s RAP Committee, the People of Colour Alliance, the Kindness Collective and the Delta Project. These groups work on meaningful initiatives that range from promoting biodiversity to advancing national reconciliation, all while cultivating an inclusive and respectful environment. Through Synergy, students develop a sense of responsibility, empathy, and global citizenship, contributing to the world around them and embracing diversity at every step.
House
The House Program is the entry point to the Overnewton Co Curriculum, offering teamwork, leadership development, and cross-age activities through clubs and events. House Coordinators and Student Leaders align events with the four co curricular pillars, focusing on participation and inclusivity. Students are encouraged to engage in various activities, step out of their comfort zones, and connect with peers and teachers. Students have the opportunity to compete for shields in a diverse range of activities during the year while high performers in House events are given the opportunity to compete for Overnewton in representative competitions. House becomes an important part of our students’ identity, with their House colours representing Curie, Edison, Newton and Pasteur, proudly worn on their sports uniforms.
At Overnewton, the Co Curricular Program supports students to find their passions and shine. Students at all year levels are exposed to a breadth of experiences that can lead them on a journey to excel beyond the classroom. By participating in these programs, Overnewton students grow as well-rounded individuals, prepared to thrive academically, socially, and personally.
We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
