VCE Vocational Major
The VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) offers students a dynamic and flexible pathway within the VCE, designed to be completed over two years. Tailored to students' strengths and interests, the VCE VM equips them with the skills and capabilities needed to thrive in further education, work, and life.
Overnewton is proud to offer a program that supports students in pursuing apprenticeships, traineeships, non-ATAR pathways to university - or directly entering the workforce - providing them with valuable, real-world experiences.
By combining practical skills with knowledge and personal growth, the VCE VM empowers students to make informed decisions about their future. It nurtures lifelong learning, creativity, and citizenship, preparing them to navigate an ever changing world with confidence.

The VCE VM curriculum is designed to engage students with real world learning, equipping them with the in demand skills essential for the future workforce.
Through applied learning, students gain skills and knowledge by actively engaging with real life experiences. This approach allows them to connect what they’ve learned to practical situations, fostering flexible and personalised learning that aligns with each student's strengths, interests, and goals.
Moving away from a traditional, isolated curriculum, this integrated approach empowers students to solve problems, implement projects, and participate in structured workplace learning, preparing them for the challenges of tomorrow’s world.

Achieving the VCE VM
VCE VM students must successfully finish at least 16 Units including:
- 3 English Units (Literacy/English)
- 2 Mathematics Units (Numeracy/Foundation Math)
- 2 Personal Development Skills (PDS) Units
- 2 Work Related Skills (WRS) Units
- VET – 180 hours per year
- 1 VCE Breadth subject
- EXTRA: Structured Workplace Learning Recognition (SWLR) Units 1 and 2
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
VCE VM students must be enrolled in at least one VET subject.
VET subjects cultivate industry-specific skills, expose students to TAFE-style learning and allow them to attain a nationally recognised qualification.
In 2025, Overnewton is offering Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation onsite.
