Senior School (Years 10–12)

Pathways to Success

Senior School is a pivotal stage where Year 10 - 12 students take greater responsibility for their learning and actively prepare for their future.

Our Senior School provides a supportive and aspirational environment in which educators guide students through the final years of schooling, encouraging academic achievement, personal growth and a love of lifelong learning. While we are proud of our strong VCE results, our focus extends beyond academic success. We are committed to developing well-rounded individuals who are prepared for life beyond school. Senior School teachers play an active role in supporting students as they transition toward independence, helping them approach this important stage with confidence and clarity.

With access to personalised guidance, career development programs, and the opportunity to undertake VCE subjects from Year 10, students are empowered to build the skills, knowledge and values required for their future pathways. Purposefully designed learning environments foster collaboration, engagement and meaningful connection between students and staff.

Pastoral Care

The Senior School horizontal pastoral care model ensures that students remain within the same Mentor Group throughout Senior School, fostering a strong sense of belonging, continuity of support, and meaningful connections with their Mentor - their first point of contact for guidance and wellbeing.

Our comprehensive Pastoral Care Program equips students with essential life skills, fosters resilience, and enhances academic and personal wellbeing. Through structured mentoring, we:

  • Develop students’ time management, communication, and study skills.
  • Reinforce expectations around attendance, punctuality, and uniform.
  • Provide early intervention and tailored support for individual needs.
  • Celebrate achievements and encourage personal growth.
  • Offer guidance on study pathways, peer relationships, and future opportunities.
  • Promote wellbeing through counselling, health education, and academic care.

With a structured pastoral care curriculum from Years 10 to 12, our program nurtures the whole person—shaping confident, capable, and compassionate young adults. Delivered by mentors, peers, and expert providers, it ensures students are equipped to navigate challenges, embrace opportunities, and thrive.

Learning Excellence

We are committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to achieve their personal best in every subject they choose. This commitment is strengthened through our homework policy, enrichment and enhancement programs, and a diverse range of co-curricular opportunities.

The Year 10 program is developed around allowing student choice of the subjects they wish to study and pursue. It allows individuals to cater for their needs, evaluate their options and make decisions based on their future pathways. This program provides flexibility and engagement for students, as well as providing them with the necessary foundation skills to move into a VCE program and life beyond Overnewton.

At Year 10, subjects are a semester in length. Students choose a total of seven subjects in both Semesters 1 and 2.

At Year 11 and 12 Overnewton offers students the option to study either the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM).

Student Leadership

Leadership development is a cornerstone of the Senior School experience. Students can take on formal roles such as Student Executive, House Captains, or Student Representative Council Leaders. These opportunities, often involving an application or interview process, enable students to build leadership skills and contribute meaningfully to the College community.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
