At Overnewton, sustainability is more than a program, it is a shared responsibility and a long-term commitment to our environment, our community and future generations.
We are proud of the continued success of our sustainability initiatives, which are having a positive and lasting impact across the College and beyond. With a strong track record in sustainable practices, Overnewton was honoured to receive Sustainability Victoria’s Emerging School of the Year award in 2022, followed by the Student Action Team of the Year (Primary) award in 2023.
Our commitment extends beyond students and staff. We are equally proud of our Parent Sustainability Group, a team of 30 passionate volunteers who bring expertise, energy and community spirit to every project. As a finalist for School Volunteer of the Year at the 2024 ResourceSmart Schools Awards, the group continues to lead meaningful initiatives, including the Party Kit Network program, which is already making a significant difference in the Brimbank community.
In 2024, Overnewton achieved another key milestone by earning a 2-star certification through the successful completion of the ResourceSmart Schools Waste Module. This achievement reflects the dedication of our students, staff and families in promoting sustainable practices and responsible waste management.
Looking ahead, we are excited to take our next steps by working through the ResourceSmart Schools Biodiversity Module. As we grow in our understanding and actions, we remain committed to shaping a future where sustainability is embedded in every part of College life.
Together, we are not just making an impact today, we are building a more sustainable tomorrow.
We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
