An Unforgettable Journey Through China

Dec 19, 2025 3:18 AM

Our China Tour has come to a close, leaving our students with unforgettable memories, meaningful learning experiences and stories they will carry with them for years to come. After a wonderfully warm welcome in Hainan, Beijing offered moments of reflection, wonder and connection. Our students were exposed to the vast history of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, and explored the Ming Tombs, learning traditional protocols and walking the sacred pathway to the resting place of Emperor Jia Du and his empress, before tackling one of the steepest sections of the Great Wall of China under clear blue skies.

Learning continued through visits to the Lama Temple, Temple of Confucius and the Imperial College, where education, belief systems and tradition came together. A walk through the hutongs, spirited bargaining, and shared Sichuan-style hot pot dinners brought culture to life in memorable ways.

In Shanghai, students experienced the energy and contrast of the Bund and Tian Zi Fang, a Huangpu River Cruise, Zhujiajiao Water Village, the Oriental Pearl Tower, Yu Yuan Garden, Jade Buddha Temple and a magical day at Shanghai Disneyland.

Our students returned home richer in understanding, confidence and global perspective, and greeted by excited families eager to hear every story.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
