Commemorating ANZAC Day Across the College

Apr 24, 2026 6:12 PM
Middle primary school aged students from Overnewton's Junior School proudly hold a large commemorative wreath adorned with a "Lest We Forget" ribbon between them, which will be used as part of an ANZAC Day ceremony at the school.

In the lead up to ANZAC Day, our Yirramboi Campus came together for a respectful and reflective ANZAC Assembly, attended by staff and Middle and Senior School students.

A highlight of the service was 'As We Look Back', a moving original composition by Head of Performing Arts, Mrs Carolyn Hernandez. Beautifully performed by our talented musicians, the piece offered a powerful moment of reflection, and we are deeply grateful for the creativity and dedication behind it.

Our Canowindra Campus also marked ANZAC Day with meaningful classroom discussions, where students explored the significance of the day, including The Ode, the meaning of ‘Lest We Forget’, and the traditions of The Last Post and The Rouse.

Students from both Year 9 and Junior School gathered at the flagpoles to lay a wreath and observe a minute of silence in honour of those who have served. The ceremony was enriched by Year 9 student Fred, whose bugle performance provided a poignant moment.

We are proud of our staff and students across the College for the respect and care shown in marking this important day of commemoration.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the Marin Balluk people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which Overnewton Anglican Community College stands. We respect the knowledge that will be forever embedded within the Aboriginal Custodianship of Country and remember the loss of cultures, languages and Lands they have endured. Like the Marin Balluk people, we at Overnewton want to respect the Land, the cultures and the heritages, and learn from those who have come before us in the passing on of knowledge and the teaching of life skills, as well as continue with wise stewardship of our buildings and grounds. We honour their custodianship of this Land and offer them our deep respect.
