Renaissance Reading

The Renaissance Reading Program is a key part of our Middle School English experience, supporting students to build strong, independent reading habits and a genuine enjoyment of reading.

All students participate in the program through regular library lessons, held weekly or fortnightly, and are encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes at home each day. Reading alongside your child is a simple and effective way to nurture this routine and reinforce positive habits.

Students begin with a reading assessment, which identifies their reading age and helps match them with appropriately levelled books from the Middle School library. From there, they engage in independent reading, building both confidence and comprehension over time.

As students complete each book, they undertake an online comprehension quiz, earning points based on their understanding. Teachers closely monitor this progress, using the data to track growth, celebrate achievement and encourage consistency in reading.
