Middle School Transition

Starting Strong in Middle School

Our Middle School Transition Program helps students feel confident and supported as they join our College. From Step Up Days to engaging Pastoral Care sessions, each step builds familiarity and connection. This page outlines the transition activities that will take place, to help you prepare.

Transition Activities

Onboarding Day

Towards the end of the year, new students are invited to an Onboarding Day. This day is all about settling in and includes completing some academic assessments, exploring the Middle School learning centres, meeting other new students, and setting up iPads (Years 5 & 6) and MacBooks (Years 7 & 8) on our network and learning platforms.

Step Up Day

All students, both new and current, take part in Step Up Day. It’s a chance to meet new teachers and classmates, enjoy team-building activities, try out some subjects, and become familiar with Middle School spaces.

Start of Year Orientation

When the school year begins, we dedicate the first few days to orientation. Students build executive functioning skills, get organised for classes, attend welcome assemblies, and join year-level specific activities to help them feel at home.

Ongoing Support

Transition doesn’t stop there. Our peer buddy program, lunchtime clubs and special new student luncheon with the Middle School Student Leadership Team all help new students settle in, make friends and feel part of the Overnewton community.
